About the L-Acoustics MTD112b

A coaxial box does something a conventional horn-and-woofer cabinet cannot: it radiates from a single point, so the low end and the high end leave the enclosure from the same place and arrive at the listener in phase. The MTD112b loads a 1.4 inch compression driver directly into the cone of a 12 inch driver, which yields total wavefront coherency and an 85 degree pattern that is identical horizontally and vertically. No polar lobing, no crossover region where the image smears as you walk across it.

Two boxes in one shape

The truncated wedge is not styling. Stood upright on a pole it is a 12 inch full-range front-of-house box; laid on its rear side the baffle sits at 45 degrees to vertical and it is a floor wedge. That is one item on the run sheet covering two positions, which matters on a load where the truck is already full.

Passive, and deliberately so

The MTD112b is passive at 8 ohms with 250 Wrms long-term handling, driven from an amp rack rather than carrying its own. Its companion LLC112b-st analog controller applies the band limiting and component EQ and adds sense return protection, monitoring the amplifier outputs for thermal and excursion limits. Paired with the SB118 subwoofer it extends into side fill and drum monitoring.
