About the Electro-Voice EVIVA 18SP
The EVIVA 18SP is the low end under a portable system. One 18 inch driver, 1000 W of amplifier, and a slot-ported plywood cabinet that gets to 38 Hz and puts 132 dB in the room. It weighs 30.7 kg with metal side handles and antiskid feet, which is the difference between a two-person lift and a job that one tech can load in.
Typical applications
- Dance floors at weddings, corporate parties and end-of-year functions
- DJ and band systems that need weight under a pair of tops
- Ground-stacked sub position under a satellite speaker on a pole
- Marquee and function-room systems where the sub has to travel
How it goes together
An M20 threaded plate on the top takes a pole straight into a full-range box above it, so a sub-and-satellite side stands up in one movement with no extra hardware. Two XLR/TRS combo inputs take the feed and two XLR pass-throughs send the top end on, so a stereo pair daisy-chains without a splitter. The low-pass crossover sits at 100 Hz by default with 150 Hz available, and there is a polarity switch on the panel for the times the sub and the tops are fighting each other.
MUSIC and LIVE
One knob and a mode switch. MUSIC gives the shaped, extended low end a DJ set wants. LIVE keeps it tighter and faster for a band, where a kick drum has to stay defined instead of blooming. It is the difference between a setting a tech would dial in and a setting anyone can pick correctly in five seconds.
