As the sun set over Kurrawa Beach, Cavalcade brought the 2025 BLEACH* Festival to a powerful close with an equestrian opera like no other. A full-scale outdoor spectacle, the production combined world-class dressage, live opera, and a 24-piece orchestra under the rising full moon.
Krank’d was engaged to provide both the lighting design and full lighting rig for this ambitious beachfront production. Our role included designing a system capable of transforming the shoreline into a theatrical performance space—balancing the subtlety required for operatic moments with the drama demanded by trick riding and choreographed equine movement.
The show’s theme, Control to Freedom, was reflected in the lighting progression, with colour, movement, and intensity echoing the evolving narrative. From wide-stage coverage to tight isolations on soloists and riders, the lighting was key to unifying the diverse performance elements in an open-air setting.
This project highlights Krank’d’s ability to deliver immersive, site-responsive lighting design in non-traditional venues—supporting complex productions with creative vision and technical reliability.
